10 BIG TUNES YOU NEED TO HEAR THIS MONTH

1CRISTOPH

‘Alone’ (Knee Deep in Sound)

Easily the most incisive house cut of the month, Cristoph’s return to the fray is the lead single from his new ‘8-Track’ album, which arrived at Mixmag on CD and – yes! – cassette. The rumbling synth riff has an equally 80s vintage, with a melody inspired by Visage’s classic ‘Fade To Grey. Huge.

2DENIS SULTA

Nein Fortiate’ (Sulta Selects)

It’s safe to say that everyone with halfway decent ears supported ‘It’s Only Real’ on Numbers, and now Denis is back with a new EP. The lead cut is a twisted, percussive instrumental that Sulta has cooked to absolute perfection.

3FRANCESCA LOMBARDO

Remembrance’ (Echoe)

For the first time, we welcome the Italian-born Lombardo into Big Tunes this month. And not without good reason: the bassline and delicate melodic interplay will see this played from BPM right through to Ibiza next summer.

4RICARDO VILLALOBOS & UMHO

‘Melo De Melo’ (Drumma)

A new Ricardo record is always a big deal, and here the Fabric legend reminds us of his roots in Chile with ‘Melo De Melo’, which celebrates the fifth anniversary and 15th vinyl release of Drumma Records. Trippy techno of the highest order: dive in.

5RICHY AHMED FEAT GLORIA ADERITI

Put Me In A Trance’ (Four Thirty Two)

If, like us, you have come to the conclusion that Paradise is the most fun-fuelled party in Ibiza, you’ll have heard this brilliant vocal banger, which shares a similar spirit with ‘Baby Wants To Ride’ by Jamie Principle: high praise indeed.

6HUXLEY & ROY DAVIS JR

‘Do You Feel Me’ (Aus)

Aus continue their purple patch with this sublime new collaboration. With Roy on vocals – “Let us takeyou to another place!” – and a rhythm that could rouse and raise the dead, this could well be Huxley’s best record to date. Great to have Roy back, too.

7BRASSICA

‘Time Tunnel’ (Feel My Bicep)

Feel My Bicep is on fire right now, and Brassica’s latest goes right for the jugular. Continuing the connection that started on Civil Music back in May (Bicep remixed ‘Tears I Can’t Afford’, in case you somehow forgot), this is scorched electronic soul for Sven and Pampa/DJ Koze fans alike.

8RODRIGUEZ JR.

‘Chain Reaction’ (Mobilee)

The latest from fast-rising Frenchman Rodriguez Jr. is a psychedelic, tripped-out techno instrumental made on a Moog voyager. If you miss the gloriously wonky days and nights of 2006 and 2007, step right in.

9MAXXI SOUNDSYSTEM & ALEX BANKS

Lost In Memory’ (Maxxi Soundsystem edit) (Moda Black)

He’s come a long way since that killer disco re-edit of ‘Criticize’! This is a seriously heavy slab of 4AM peak-time business that’s likely to be supported by Jamie Jones and Solomun. Best release on Moda in yonks.

10PSYCHO RADIO VS LC ANDERSON BAD REPUTATION REBIRTH

‘Bad Reputation’ (Rebirth)

Done right, you can never have enough cosmic disco. This track was the brain-child of Italian producer Daniele Tignino and now comes back with additional studio wizardry from Da Lukas. It’s inspired cosmic Balearica with a nod to The Breeders’ ‘Cannonball’ to boot.
